Unidos da Tijuca samba school has won Brazil’s most competitive carnival parade. A 40-member jury crowned Unidos da Tijuca, whose parade honoured Brazilian Formula 1legend Ayrton Senna, winner of the elite Grupo Especial category. Twelveschools were judged in 10 categories including their percussion section, costumes and floats, and their samba song composed especially for the occasion. Unidos da Tijuca won by a 10th of a point over rivals Salgueiro.
